Hello! This is a brief overview of grade 5 this year!
Language Arts
In Language Arts, we will read stories to help the students improve their reading comprehension. This is a list of some of the stories we will read this year. To be clear, these stories come from the "Journeys 2.2" book by Houghton-Mifflin. I will post the files with the stories and work booklets on ClassDojo. Please note that we may not read all of these stories. Conversely, we may read stories that are not on this list.
We will also do spelling and grammar to help the students improve their overall understanding in English. We use spelling and grammar sheets from a company called Evan-Moor. I will post these files as needed on ClassDojo as well.
Finally, we will do journals. This is to help students improve their writing in English. This year, the usual pattern is that I will assign a given topic one week (usually on a Friday), and then ask the students to write journals over the weekend. Once they come back to school the following week, they are to hand in their journals to me. I will edit the journals for mistakes, and then hand them back to the students. The next assignment will be for the students to read their edited journals in a video to be posted to ClassDojo. You will see me post on ClassDojo about weekly journal topics and video assignments.
Science
In Science, we will learn various scientific concepts spanning a variety of topics. This is a list of some of the Science units we will be doing this year. Please not that we may not study all of these units. Conversely, we may do units that are not on this list.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we will learn various mathematical concepts spanning a variety of topics. This is a list of some of the Mathematics units we will be doing this year. Please note that we may not study all of these units. Conversely, we may do units that are not on this list.
